The Model Context Protocol (MCP) is the emerging standard for connecting AI models to the real world. Instead of building one-off integrations for every tool and every model, MCP gives you a single protocol — write a server once, and any compatible AI client can use it. Ten models and one hundred tools used to mean one thousand custom integrations. MCP collapses that to one hundred and ten.

This course teaches you MCP from the ground up in Python. You will build real servers and clients, understand what travels on the wire, and cover every surface of the protocol that matters in practice: tools, resources, prompts, structured return types, the full CallToolResult envelope, and async context for streaming progress and log notifications mid-execution.

You will learn the three MCP primitives and when to use each — tools compute and return results, resources expose data at a URI, and prompts package ready-to-use conversation context for an LLM. You will understand exactly when structuredContent is populated versus when content gives you usable data, how to signal errors with isError without raising exceptions, and how to attach client-only metadata that never reaches the model. Both stdio and Streamable HTTP transports are covered side by side — switching between them is a single line of code.

Each concept is taught with a dedicated server and client so you can see exactly what is happening on both sides of the connection. Everything is then combined into a full end-to-end tour. The course closes with a hands-on walkthrough of the MCP Inspector — the official visual debugger for MCP servers — so you can test and verify your servers without writing a single line of client code.
